ELWOOD CHIROPRACTOR

Clinic information

Common questions about our chiropractic care, what to expect, and how to get started.

Where is the clinic located?

Dr Asena practises at Pando Society Wellness Centre, 109 Brighton Road, Elwood VIC 3184, Melbourne. We are situated within a multi-disciplinary space that shares our vision for holistic health.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?

No, you do not need a referral to book a chiropractic appointment. As primary healthcare practitioners, chiropractors are trained to assess and manage your presentation directly.

What happens at a New Patient Appointment?

Your first visit involves a detailed health history, movement and neurological assessment, and a discussion of your goals. If clinically appropriate, you will also receive your first treatment during this session.

What techniques does Dr Asena use?

Dr Asena utilizes a range of evidence-informed methods including Gonstead, Diversified, Thompson, Sacro-Occipital Technique, soft tissue therapy, and dry needling, tailoring the approach to your comfort and presentation.

Can you refer me for X-rays or imaging if needed?

Yes. If your assessment indicates that imaging is necessary for a clear diagnosis or to guide safe care, Dr Asena can refer you for X-rays, ultrasound, MRI, or CT scans.

What conditions do you commonly treat?

Common presentations include migraines and headaches, nervous system regulation, lower back pain, knee pain, TMJ/jaw dysfunction, sciatica, sports injuries, and poor posture. Care is tailored to your specific presentation and goals.

Are my appointments claimable through private health insurance?

Yes, if you have extras cover that includes chiropractic care. We have HICAPS on site, meaning you can claim your rebate on the spot and only pay the gap.

How long do appointments take?

New Patient Appointments take 45 minutes to allow for a thorough assessment. Standard Consultations are typically 15-20 minutes, while Extended Consultations run for 30 minutes for multiple concerns or deeper reassessment.

Is chiropractic care safe?

Yes. Chiropractic care is a well-researched, conservative form of healthcare. Dr Asena tailors every technique to your health history, comfort, and presentation, and will always explain what to expect before any treatment.

What is the cracking noise during an adjustment?

The sound is simply gas bubbles releasing from the fluid within a joint, known as cavitation, the same mechanism behind cracking your knuckles. It is not bones grinding or breaking, and it is not necessary for a treatment to be effective.

What does a chiropractor do?

A chiropractor assesses how your spine, joints, muscles, and nervous system are working together, then uses hands-on techniques, movement guidance, and education to relieve pain, restore function, and support long-term health.

Can chiropractic help with my posture?

Yes. Poor posture often comes from muscle imbalance, joint restriction, or habitual movement patterns. Dr Asena can assess the underlying cause and combine adjustments, soft tissue work, and simple exercises to help you move and sit more comfortably.
